Preliminary Task.

Preliminary task.

The preliminary task is the first activity we will do, where we can explore the use of lighting, different camera angles and shots. We are required to use continuity editing.
Continuity editing is a way to make the shots the piece look consistent, and flow easily. Continuity editing examples could be the 180 degree rule, a match on action or even a shot reverse shot.
The 180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule is where the position of the camera has to be in a 180 degree zone on one side of the line of action. If not, the audience can get disorientated and it makes the piece hard to follow

Match on action

A match on action is where the editor cuts on one camera angle and continues onto another while the actor is doing the same action. This shows continuity in the shots if edited correctly, and so we shall be using it along with the 180 degree rule and the shot reverse shot in our preliminary task.

Shot Reverse Shot

A shot reverse shot is mainly used in conversations between two people, as it is the camera peering over the shoulder of (or near) one of the characters while the other one speaks. Then it cuts to the other persons view when the other person starts to talk, and then it flips again etc. we shall be using this when two characters interact.

Our Ideas for this.

Idea 1: A person walks into the room. Something strange is happening in this room (possibly a hostage situation). There is a blindfolded hostage tied to a chair. Three of the characters are in makeshift balaclavas, and look at the person that just sat down. Then there is an awkward silence before the person says he thinks hes in the wrong room, The balaclava people say nothing while there is a muffled screaming from the hostage, then the person proceeds to walk out of the room slowly.

Idea 2: A person is waiting for an interview. He/she walks into the room where 1/2 other people  are waiting. One of the people asks if he/she is the interviewee, where the other person panics and runs out of the room crying.
